How to Set Yourself Up For a Stronger Financial Year

And Why This Happens in July

July has a particular kind of energy for business owners. The new financial year has officially started, last year is done and dusted, and there is, for a brief and glorious moment, a genuine fresh start on the table.

Most small business owners I work with say they want to use this time well. They want to get organised, set clearer goals, understand their numbers, and build the kind of financial habits that will make the year feel less reactive and more intentional. They want to actually be on top of it, rather than always catching up.

The challenge is that July tends to fill up fast. There are BAS deadlines, STP finalisations, super guarantee payments, and a general sense that the admin of last year is not entirely behind you yet. The fresh start you were promised starts to feel a little crowded.

So here’s what I want to offer you this month.

THE CASE FOR APPROACHING NEW FINANCIAL YEAR PLANNING DIFFERENTLY

What if getting set up for the financial year didn’t feel like a chore? What if it felt like an investment, in you, in your business, in your ability to make clearer decisions from a more grounded place?

This is the thinking behind the AmiWho Financial Planner I’ve spent time putting together a tool that’s is not only beautiful, but genuinely useful: gold-edged pages, a proper presentation box, and a layout designed to help you think through your financial goals, organise your priorities, and stay on track throughout the year.

It is not a planner in the generic sense. It’s a working document for the version of you who is serious about making this year count.

AN AFTERNOON FOR SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS WHO ARE READY TO MOVE FORWARD

On Sunday 26 July, I’m co-hosting The Wealth and Wine Brunch at The Adnate Perth (Art Series Hotel, 900 Hay Street, Perth WA 6000).

The event brings together a 3-course brunch, wine pairings and education from Brenden Robnik of The Wine Animal, and a talk from me on how to use the journal to set yourself up for the year ahead.

Every ticket includes a journal to take home.

Brendan is a Yarra Valley-based wine educator with deep experience in corporate and private events. He brings warmth and genuine expertise to wine knowledge, and the pairings for the afternoon have been thoughtfully chosen.

Tickets are $110 and include the full 3-course brunch, wine experience, and your planner.

On the day, you can also purchase an extra planner for a friend at the special event price of $99 (regular RRP $169), a lovely gift for someone in your world who deserves a great start to the year.

Two bundles are also available for those who want to go deeper:

    Planner + 1 hour with Ami: $330

    Planner + Quarterly Review: $550

WHAT GETTING ORGANISED FOR THE NEW FINANCIAL YEAR ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE

You don’t need to overhaul everything at once. Getting set up for a stronger financial year is often simpler than it feels.

It starts with knowing the numbers that actually drive your decisions, not every figure, just the right ones. It involves having a place to put your goals and intentions where you’ll actually look at them. And it means building small, sustainable habits rather than ambitious systems that collapse in week two.

The planner is designed to support all of this. It’s the kind of tool I wish more of my clients had in their hands at the start of every year.

Whether you join us at the brunch or not, I hope July feels like the beginning of something good for your business. And if you’d like support getting your books in order, setting up your systems, or simply having someone in your corner, I’d love to hear from you.

Head to the contact page to get in touch, or come and find me on the 26th!
